In order to trade with a member state of The EEC, it is a legal requirement that products conforms with the European Directives. This is know as CE marking

What is CE Marking or CE Mark?
The correct CE Marking is the symbol shown here:

The French phrase “Conformité Européene” or in English: “European Conformity” is the abbreviation for the letters “CE” in the Directive 93/68/EEC in 1993. "CE Marking" is now used in all EU official documents.

The CE marking is the manufacturer's declaration that the product meets the requirements of the applicable EC directives. It is often mistaken to be an abbreviation of "European Conformity" or Conformité Européenne -- but is not.

The CE mark can only be applied when the product or products has undergone attestation according with the relevant directive and is proven by assembling a "Technical Construction File" on that product.

The attestation can only be carried out by an authorized representative based in the EEU. (The organization that was established was called the European Economic Community or EEC or European Union or EU).

They agreed to the erection of a common tariff barrier on goods from outside and the removal of tariffs and import quotes among member countries.

Since the Treaty of Rome came into force, the member countries of the EEC have steadily pushed ahead with the unification of their economies and countries such as U.K., Ireland, Denmark, Spain as well as many other European countries became new member.

There are a number of bodies within the EEU which can carry out the CE marking for any exporters wanting to export to The EEC.

In UK the most comprehensive list of CE marking specialists is available from the Department of Trade and Industry, and are known as "Notified Bodies".
